Objective
In this guide I will show you how to create an anonymous Signal Messenger account.
Signal Messenger is a chat app in which messages between the accounts are always end-to-end encrypted. Signal, with its latest update, has brought in features of hiding your phone number, and setting up a username for account discovery.
With these two features, Signal Messenger moves beyond just being a chat app between IRL friends and relatives, but into a secure chat app in which relative strangers can chat and inform themselves about common interests, without being censored, surveilled or threatened with persecution.
Caveat
Signal user accounts are always tied to a phone number (which sucks immensely). For this reason, in the ideal scenario, you should have a continued ownership of the phone number that you used to register your account. However, this makes it difficult to be anonymous, since, not many countries allow one to purchase SIM cards over-the-counter with cash. For this reason, in this guide, I will show you how to rent a phone number for SMS verification. I have done some amount of due diligence and tried to pick a renting service which doesn't give your phone number for signal account registry, to another customer that comes after you. However, understand that, you may lose your signal account in the future when/if the number you used gets used to register for signal by someone else. That future may take a long while to arrive, therefore, allowing you in the meantime to enjoy an anonymous signal account usage.

Setup
Rent a number for SMS
Using Tor Browser go to https://juicysms.com address. On the upper right hand side, click on the profile icon, and click on the Register button. In my case, I wasn't bothered with a verification email for my account, so, I am guessing that you can use a throwaway email address for registering to JuicySms service.
Using your password manager generate a password for your JuicySms account. Then, finalize your account registration process.
After the registration, navigate to the Add Funds option from your account settings. Pick Monero (XMR) for your payment method. Select 5 EUR for the amount you will be funding your account with. Click on the Add Funds button.

You will be redirected a page where you will see the amount of Monero (XMR) you have to send, and the address you have to send them to. Using your Monero wallet carry out this payment.

After you send the Monero payment, navigate to the landing page of the JuicySms service. On the search bar, enter Signal. If JuicySms has available phone numbers for you, it will present you with a Signal button. Click on it.

Activate your signal account
JuicySms will redirect you to a page where you can see the details of your order. Here, you will use the incoming verification code to activate your signal account inside the Signal or Molly apps. Until you receive the verification code, your page will be looking like the following:

In a few minutes, you should receive the verification code.

Enter this code into the Signal/Molly app. After that, you will have your signal account activated.
Conclusion
In this guide I showed you how to create an anonymous signal account. For this, we used the JuicySms service. We paid the service with Monero (XMR), and then used the incoming verification code to register our account.
Next, using the Signal app, you should disable 1) who can find me by my phone number and 2) who can see my phone number options. You should create and use Signal usernames for account discovery.
